November 2010 Mix
So here's the November Mix I came up with. If you're at all like me, the beginning of winter months leave you feeling bummed all the time, and confused as shit when it comes to love. I have a totally love/hate relationship with these feelings. No one likes being bummed all the time, but when these feelings start popping up they are bizarrely comforting. Anyway these are the songs I've chosen to listen to in these ever increasing times of depression and freezingness. I hope you enjoy.

Zola Jesus - Valusia ep
I swear that last track lightsick absolutely kills me. I feel insane when i hear it, insane for being so floored by a little over four minutes of music . Swallowed by something, totally and completely.DL

ARTS - Vault Of Heaven
Vault of heaven is the sophomore release by mysterious American band ARTS. From beginning to end this album is amazing. Mastered from original 4 track cassette recordings to maximum volume to bury the listener in "deafening darkness".

Puerto Rico Flowers - 2
On this new 7" John Sharkey gives us two new recordings, one original "Voice Of Love" and a cover of Neil Young's "When You're Lonely Hear Breaks". As fall approaches, Puerto Rico Flowers becomes more and more appropriate.

Sexdrome - Grown Younger
I just ordered this LP like two hours ago from youth attack. Sexdrome mixes elements of raw black metal and that "mysterious guy hardcore" that seems to be all the rage right now, and delivers some very noisy, not so original, but still cool, blackened hardcore. Or something like that.

Sex Church - Six Songs
Six songs (duh) from British Columbia's Sex Church. I was hoping to be pretty floored by this release since their first 7" was sooooo awesome. Unfortunately i wasn't. Not bad though for generic darkish-post punk-lo-fi-garagey-hipster-whatever you call it.
Lakes - Tray Of Fire 7"
DL
New 7" from Australia's Lakes. It's really hard to describe the sound of the 4 songs here. It almost gives off a similar vibe to OM, although saying that they sound even remotely similar would be a huge stretch. The songs are blown out and distorted, there is next to no percussion if any at all, and the music is fairly basic. At the same time the subtle melodies and overall catchyness of the songs makes for a really pleasant listen. The song Ancient Moss really stands out. Highly Recommended.

Lascowiec - Isolation
Isolation is the second of two unreleased demos from this San Fransisco lo-fi BM duo. In the Slavonic mythology, the Lascowiec is a woodspirit; a wolf riding atop another wolf, who protects all the wild animals of the woods. There are no track names to be found for this unofficial release.

I got to see Jana Hunter's new band Lower Dens this weekend in Baltimore. It was the first show of a month long tour in support of this album. If you get a chance you should definitely check them out.

On the way home from Paul’s graduation lunch, we were listening to the Modern Lovers in the car. My mother almost immediately was like “Who is this? I know this Voice”. When I told her what we were listening to, she told us this story about how Johnathan Richmond and my father we friends and that on more then one occasion he ate dinner at our house. My brother nor myself remember this at all, but still that’s a pretty great story! Oh yeah she also mentioned that she danced around the living room with him listening to Toots and the Maytals.

Yussuf Jerusalem - Heart Full Of Sorrow
This record is a little all over the place. The first track is straight up (shitty) raw black metal, and the rest of the songs fall somewhere between really dark lo-fi pop and well... regular pop? I'm really into this. Oh, and I found it a record shop for like 7 dollars, so that was pretty awesome too.

Death In June - The Guilty Have No Pride
This Death In Junes first studio album from 1983. It's dark and creepy and great.
Death In June - Oh How We Laughed
This album was recorded live in 1982, and released in 1987. This album definitively sounds much heavier them most other Death in June stuff.

Jenn Ghetto finally put out another record. It's definitely better then Puking and Crying, but still not as good as Sadstyle. I'm really into the first half of the song Save You.

Am i making a huge mistake?
Thursday, April 22, 2010
I started a new job at Guru Records in Baltimore MD.
So far it seems pretty alright. I'm getting paid descent money to hangout in a record shop alone all day. My boss doesn't really leave me with much direction, he showed me how to ring credit cards, gave me keys to the store, told me if i have to leave for a short while thats fine but to be sure i locked up if i did, then he left. We'll see how it goes.
